Tangier has become the most expensive city in Morocco, surpassing Casablanca, according to the latest Numbeo cost of living index.
The northern port city now leads the national ranking with a cost of living index of 36.53%, followed by Casablanca at 35.64%, Rabat at 34.38%, and Marrakech at 32.71%. The report highlights rising rents (10.5%), food prices (38.7%), and restaurant costs (28.45%), with overall living costs including rent reaching 24.56%. Local purchasing power stands at 42.81%.
Experts attribute Tangier’s rise to its growing economic and demographic activity, driven by major companies attracting a larger workforce and boosting demand across housing and services.
