Tunisian appeals court has increased the prison sentence of Rached Ghannouchi, head of the Ennahda Movement, from 14 to 20 years in the so-called “Conspiracy 2” case, a defence lawyer said Tuesday.

Defence member Samir Dilo told AFP that the appeals court handed Ghannouchi, 84, a 20-year sentence for charges including “conspiracy against internal state security.”

Ghannouchi, who has been jailed since 2023, faces multiple other cases, with several long-term prison sentences already issued against him.
