Authorities in Ksar el-Kebir are continuing operations to evacuate and shelter residents affected by rising waters of the Loukos River, which flooded several neighborhoods following weeks of exceptional rainfall in northern Morocco. The regional emergency committee is coordinating efforts among military, civil defense, and local rescue teams to provide aid to residents in the hardest-hit areas.
With rainfall temporarily subsiding over the weekend, many families took advantage of the brief improvement in conditions to relocate to safer areas. Public authorities remain actively engaged, ensuring residents in high-risk neighborhoods are assisted, while the National Meteorological Directorate issued a fresh warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms from Monday morning through Tuesday noon, forecasting 50–80 mm of rain in the Loukos River basin, including Ouezzane, Chefchaouen, and Larache. Authorities have urged citizens to follow evacuation instructions and safety guidelines.
In collaboration with local officials, the Royal Armed Forces have established emergency shelters, including at Abdel Salam Al-Ghrissi Stadium in Nahda district and Karim El Ahmadi Stadium in Salam district, capable of accommodating hundreds of families. The shelters are fully equipped with waterproof tents, basic services, medical support, and volunteer assistance from the Red Crescent, providing care to the elderly, women, and others in urgent need during this critical period.
