Morocco remains the confirmed host of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, South African officials said, following brief public remarks that suggested a possible change in hosting plans.
The clarification came after Peace Mabe, South Africa’s deputy minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, stated during a public appearance on Sunday that Morocco had withdrawn from hosting the tournament, scheduled to take place from March 17 to April 3, 2026, and that South Africa was prepared to host the event.
In response, Gayton McKenzie, South Africa’s minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, issued a formal statement denying any change, saying the comments had been misstated. He explained that South Africa had only responded to an inquiry from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding possible contingency arrangements.
McKenzie said no formal decision has been made to move the tournament and that CAF has not initiated any procedure to select an alternative host. He added that Morocco remains the officially designated host of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
